Passenger’s Frantic 911 Call from Luggage Compartment Released

Connecticut State Police have released a 911 call made by a woman who was trapped in the luggage compartment of a Peter Pan bus. The incident occurred in August when the woman, who was traveling from New York City to Boston, got off the bus in Hartford to retrieve something from her bag. The bus driver, Wendy Helena Alberty, allegedly locked her in the luggage compartment and continued the journey.

In the 911 call from the luggage compartment, the woman, who had limited battery life on her phone, expressed her fear and desperation to the dispatcher. She explained that she was locked in the compartment with the luggage and was afraid for her safety. The dispatcher reassured her and contacted State Police units to track down the bus, which was traveling on Interstate 84 East in Willington.

The bus was eventually stopped, and the woman was found unharmed. She refused medical attention but was visibly shaken by the ordeal. Alberty, the 49-year-old bus driver from New Jersey, was arrested and charged with unlawful restraint, reckless endangerment, and breach of peace. She had been with the company since 2012 and had an exemplary employment record prior to this incident.

Fellow passengers on the bus reported hearing loud noises coming from the luggage compartment, which they initially dismissed. The woman was trapped in the compartment for approximately 45 minutes before being rescued. The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety and the actions of bus drivers.

Peter Pan Bus Lines has stated that they are cooperating with the investigation and have suspended Alberty. The case is ongoing, and the company is reviewing its safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
